I am Trevor Jones….  a longtime friend of the White family.   I have been given the impossible task of speaking to you about Trevor in a very short time. Today we are here to celebrate the life of Trevor White.  It is a time of remembrance and a time for healing.  It is a time for reflecting.  I first met Trevor in his teen years, and I remember how impressed I was with his manner and bearing.  I later watched  him through his learning years, through the relentless  pursuit of his chosen career…that of being a  head football coach. Though twice his age,  when I had discussions with him, I always felt a little in awe at the depth and  range of  his knowledge.  He had the potential of greatness in him. I once had occasion to witness him in action at an early spring drill.  I watched his intensity with his players…walking down the line after each play saying ever    so  gently …..”Get up. Get up…you’re  killing the grass!”    I remember thinking how sorry I was for those poor linemen….but then I thought…. it could be worse….they could be an assistant coach under him.

Trevor also had an understanding nature…as in  “Let’s be reasonable…..do it my way! “Trevor was a master prankster with an unrelenting sense of humor…as I am sure many of you in this room can attest!  Being the youngest of three, with two older sisters, Jackie and Larissa, who dedicated their young lives to  making his utterly miserable.  Believe me, he more than evened the score as they grew up.

Trevor White was not a perfect man……I don’t know any perfect men…..and I am sure there were many things he was not.  But let me tell you what he WAS….He was a son, a brother. a husband, a doting father…a friend.  He was a teacher, a coach and a mentor to all he touched.  If you were hungry, he wouldn’t give you a fish,  but he’d  show you how to catch one.

I would be remiss if I did not mention Trevor’s relationship with his mother, Peggy, whom he adored.  She was to him more than his mother, she was his best pal!

Finally, if I may direct these words to his students…….no matter what has been said, no matter what you have seen  regarding  the chain of events that brought about our being here today……I would tell you that if mistakes were made….they were mistakes of the head….and not of the heart,  and certainly not the measure of the man.

Coach White had a favorite saying…he said it all the time, and judging from the signs and banners you all so loving displayed at the field house…..he obviously imparted that saying to you…”I‘M LIVING THE DREAM".  It is now up to you, his students…and you his team…to keep the dream alive!
